The Android Auto for Phone Screens app, which was utilised by millions of automobile owners, was shut down by Google. Google's Android Auto programme allows drivers to connect their smartphones to their cars and take complete control of their travel. As the name implies, the Android Auto for Phone Screens software assists users while driving. Navigation, phone and text management, music playback, and much more are among the functions available.

Because Android Auto isn't compatible with all cars, only a small percentage of users were able to use and benefit from the software. Google announced the termination, stating that the Android Auto for Phone Screens software would be phased out before the end of the year. The specific date of the shutdown has yet to be announced.

The Android Auto for Phone Screens software has approximately 5 million downloads on the Google Play store, according to the tech giant.

Why is Google phasing out this well-liked app?

9to5Google has released a report. The Android Auto for Phone Screens app will stop working once Android 12 is officially published in the coming weeks.

At I/O 2021 earlier this year, Google introduced the next version Android. With the launch of the Pixel 6 series, Android 12 is expected to arrive. Users who have been using Android Auto for a long time may need to switch to a different option soon.

Users who have been using the Android Auto for Phone Screens app for a long time shouldn't be concerned, as Google Maps now has a comparable capability. The tech giant recently updated its Google Maps app to include various Android Auto functions. While driving, several of these functions allow users to send and receive text messages, make and receive phone calls, listen to music, and more.

According to the report, while starting and closing down the Android Auto for Phone Screens app, some users are receiving a message suggesting they try the "Google Assistant driving mode" instead.
