Railways are extremely popular in India. For millions of Indians, they are etched in their minds. They made strangers feel like family and brought them together in a way that nothing else could. The food that you get to try while crisscrossing the country is one of the fondest recollections of these train excursions. IRCTC has relaunched E-Catering Services in recognition of fellow travellers' fondness for food.
Exquisite meal at the touch of a finger:
“Train passengers can order food by visiting http://ecatering.irctc.co.in or downloading the IRCTC e-catering ‘Food On Track' app,” IRCTC tweeted. They can also call the number 1323 to place an order from a large menu.” Passengers can use this service at more than 200 restaurants across the country.
When this cuisine is ordered online, it will be delivered directly to their train seats.
Passengers will have to provide their travel information, such as their PNR number, train name, and seat/berth number, either on the website or through the app, in order to buy meals.
According to the IRCTC, payment options include Cash On Delivery (COD) and online payments.
Additionally, passenger safety precautions are being implemented:
Along with offering excellent cuisine to travellers, the ministry anticipates increased security during travel. The installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in all train cars have been approved by the Ministry of Railways. It's worth noting that 141 coaches have already been outfitted with surveillance cameras.
The project for a Video Surveillance System at all stations has also been approved by the Indian Railways (except halt stations). In addition, the government has taken initiatives to increase women's train safety. Under the Nirbhaya Fund, they have installed an Integrated Enquiry Response Management System (IERMS) at 983 stations for the same purpose. In the same vein, 814 stations have been fitted with CCTV cameras to date.
