Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced on Saturday that two new international airports will be built in northeastern states, at Imphal and Agartala, to improve regional connectivity.

The airport in Itanagar would be operational by the end of the year, according to Singh, who is also the Minister of State for Development of the North Eastern Region. A facility is also being built in Kohima.

"In Guwahati, there is currently an international airport.

We also intend to build airports in Imphal and Agartala "Speaking at an event hosted by 'Amazing Namaste'.
Singh stated that he had never visited the North East before taking over the ministry, but connectivity has been raised as a major issue in all of his meetings since then.

Amazing Namaste, a community movement to get tales of the North East, organised a series of 100 presentations during the course of the pandemic.

Atul Kulkarni, the forum's convenor, said that from now on, the focus will be on boosting entrepreneurship in the region and building capability.

Prahlad Singh Patel, the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, claimed that tourism is all about a destination's impressions and that there is a "plot" to bring India down.
He further said that past Centre governments were frightened of China's threat, which caused a delay in the opening of a ready railway line in Arunachal Pradesh, which was finally opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he came to power in 2014.
