India surpasses the United Kingdom and Germany to become the world's third largest startup ecosystem.

According to the Hurun Research Institute's Hurun India Future Unicorn List 2021, India is the world's third-largest unicorn ecosystem, trailing only the United States and China.

According to the report, India has added three unicorns every month over the previous year and is growing at an exponential rate.

Hurun India's Future Unicorn List Reveals $168 Billion in Indian Unicorns

The Hurun India Future Unicorn List 2021 examines India's startup ecosystem and ranks the most valued private equity or venture capital-backed Indian companies formed after 2000. These are listed in order of the most recent funding round's worth.

In 2021, the country will have 51 unicorns, up from 51 in 2017. According to the analysis, five firms that were Cheetahs at the outset of the study have now been upgraded to Unicorn prices. There are also 32 gazelles and 54 cheetahs on the premises.

At current pricing, India's unicorns are valued $168 billion, which is more than Telangana's GDP. In addition, India's future Unicorns are valued at $36 billion, or one-third of Delhi's GDP at present prices.

According to the survey, internet use in rural areas will spur the growth of digital firms. Fintech companies working in mobile payments, insurance, blockchain, stock trading, and digital lending will develop even more to take advantage of the internet penetration, according to the report. India has 600 million internet users, which is expected to increase to 900 million by 2025.

Zupee's 25-year-old cofounder is the youngest on the Hurun list.

The Hurun list also mentions the huge interest in Indian start-ups from investors. The Cheetahs and Gazelles have attracted more than 300 investors, including angel investors, corporations, AIFs, family offices, and institutional investors. In addition, Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global are the two largest investors in these start-ups.

Sequoia, which has 37 investments in the Gazelles and Cheetahs, is also on the list, followed by Tiger Global, which has 18 investments.

According to the Hurun India Future Unicorn List 2021, 11 of the co-founders are under the age of 30, while 15 are above 50. The founders of gaming start-up Zupee, Dilsher Singh and Siddhant Saurabh, who are only 25 years old, are also the youngest on the list.

With 31 start-ups, e-commerce, FinTech, and SaaS account for 49 per cent of the list.
