By August, or within the next five weeks, Elon Musk's satellite network Starlink will be beaming global coverage of broadband internet to every corner except the poles.
Starlink now serves over 69,000 active subscribers in 12 countries with satellite broadband.
Elon Musk stated at the Mobile World Congress conference in Barcelona on Tuesday that the Starlink service is expected to have 500,000 users worldwide by 2022.
While Musk has stated that Starlink will have global coverage by August, this does not guarantee that every country, including India, will be able to use the service from August onwards.
Starlink's Most Recent Announcements:
On Tuesday, Elon Musk gave a virtual presentation at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
He stated that SpaceX's satellite internet network Starlink has recently topped 70,000 active subscribers in around 12 countries, with plans to raise this number to 500,000 users in the next 12 months.
The monthly rate for the service will be set at $99 internationally, including some local taxes.
This suggests that the satellite broadband service in India would cost roughly Rs 7,000 per month, and it will be available by 2022.
SpaceX plans to provide internet to up to 5% of the world's population in areas where traditional fibre and wireless networks are unable to reach.
According to Bloomberg, the satellite network presently moves approximately 30 terabits of data per second, and Musk has stated that he is aiming for a user latency — or network reaction time — of less than 20 milliseconds.
Next year, the business plans to launch a new generation of Starlink satellites with inter-satellite laser links to help them cover the polar areas.
Stralink sent out pre-reservation invites in India in February 2021 for services that would begin in 2022. A $99 deposit will hold your spot in line for the Starlink equipment purchase.
“By making a deposit payment, you have given yourself first priority in your region for acquiring the Starlink Kit when it becomes available,” Starlink explained.
This deposit charge is fully refundable, and all forms of payment, including Apple Pay, are accepted.
