Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 13 series of handsets later this year (or the iPhone 12s, depending on who you ask). The iPhone 13 will have a few notable changes, according to the dozens of rumours and reports that have been circulating in recent months — smaller notches, 120Hz displays, and bigger batteries — but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman claims that "engineers consider the next iPhones another "S" version of the device, the nomenclature typically given to new iPhones with minor upgrades."

In all probability, we'll find out exactly what Apple has in store for 2021 in less than three months, but as the year progresses, it appears that 2022 will be a truly historic year for the iPhone, with some of the most significant advancements we've seen from Apple since the iPhone X. However, in addition to the iPhone 14, another iPhone model is expected next year.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reiterated his prediction that the next iPhone SE will appear in the first half of next year in a recent investor report seen by 9to5Mac. He made a similar remark in March, before Apple announced the ‘Spring Loaded' event on April 20th, and is now double down on his prediction. In April of 2020, Apple released the second-generation iPhone SE.

While the 2022 iPhone SE will have a similar design to the 4.7-inch 2020 iPhone SE, according to Kuo, the new low-cost model will support 5G networks and be equipped with a faster processor. Perhaps the A15 chip that drives the iPhone 13 series will follow in the footsteps of the second-gen iPhone SE, which used the same A13 Bionic processor as the iPhone 11, which had been released just seven months before, and make its way into the third-gen iPhone SE.

The iPhone SE easily raced to the top of the sales charts with its $399 price tag, becoming one of the best-selling phones of 2020 (according to Omdia)– slightly ahead of the iPhone 12 and a few tens of millions of units behind the iPhone 11. The iPhone SE might easily become the best-selling 5G phone on the market if Apple can keep the price low while adding 5G.
